**The Difference Between Being Afraid and Being Nervous

A young skater was having a bad case of butterflies before an event.  She told her coach she was just too afraid to go out on the ice,

"You're not afraid,  You're just nervous," said the coach. "There's a difference."

He told her a story to explain the difference:

"A man goes into a restaurant and orders a $100 meal. He's nervous because he ordered such a high-priced meal, but knows he has the $100 in his pocket."

"Now fear," said the coach, "is going into the restaurant and ordering a $100 meal, knowing you have no money in your pocket."

The skater went out and finished in first place.   ~Tom Condon
