The Difference Between Being Afraid and Being Nervous

A young skater was having a bad case of butterflies before an event.  She told her coach she was just too afraid to go out on the ice,

"You're not afraid,  You're just nervous," said the coach. "There's a difference."

He told her a story to explain the difference:

"A man goes into a restaurant and orders a $100 meal. He's nervous because he ordered such a high-priced meal, but knows he has the $100 in his pocket."

"Now fear," said the coach, "is going into the restaurant and ordering a $100 meal, knowing you have no money in your pocket."

The skater went out and finished in first place.   ~Tom Condon

If we have strength, we can strengthen others.

If we have insight, we can enlighten others.
If we have wisdom, we can advise others.
If we have love, we can love others.

3 Daily Power Habits - To Practice Before the End of Each New Day

I write quite a bit about how our lives are determined by the choices we make each New Day!

Our consistent choices and routines become habits - good or bad. Developing and maintaining good habits is a constant goal of mine. The way we start our day and the way we end it matters!

Following I will share 3 daily habits that I believe give us the power to be our best.  These habits are best practiced before going to bed each night.

(1)  I have shared the gratitude habit with you before - before bed, simply write or reflect on 3 things that went well for you that day, things you are thankful for.  Before you know it, this habit helps you to really appreciate people and life.  One thing I have discovered, you cannot be happy and unthankful at the same time.  Happy, joyous people practice gratitude!

(2) Do not go to sleep angry. Nothing robs your peace of mind like unresolved anger. Sometimes it's not possible to resolve a problem that is causing the anger, but this may help:

Journal your feelings and the desire to release yourself from the pain,
Remind yourself to accept what you cannot control and change only what you can,
Tell yourself that you will not give away your power and strength to whatever or whomever has triggered the anger within you
Release the situation/person to a power greater than yourself (if you're a person of faith, pray and give it to God).

(3) This one is my personal favorite that I learned from John Maxwell.  I have practiced power habit #1 for so long that my gratitude list becomes endless.  Habit #3 has really challenged me and helped me to continue to grow and change,  So here it is:

At the end of each day, ask yourself:  What did I learn today?

It can be anything at all.  Nothing is too simple.  The point is to reflect and gain insight.  This is how we learn and change so we can be our best.

Following are a few things I recorded that I have learned:

= > Reaping negative consequences can do one of two things in a person:  it can break them and they will take responsibility for their actions and make changes OR they will become hardened, prideful and bitter

= > Work in your strength zones if you ever want to be happy and  fulfilled and feel successful.

= > Show people appreciation for their best efforts.  Criticism and complaints make you want to do less and give less to them.  It shuts down your joy in giving.

= > When you smile at a complete stranger, it stretches you out of your comfort zone and communicates love and kindness. The feelings somehow stay with you for awhile. You may even be pleasantly surprised by their response.

I hope these power habits have inspired you to end each new day well and be ready for another new day expecting good things for your life!

I encourage you to stay in the power habit of daily self-improvement and live your life to your maximum potential,  Krystal

This is one of the best guides on this matter I have ever read because it is different than other "self-help" books. Its difference lies in the author's emphasis on showing loving actions & attitudes as a factor of our own choice in how we relate to others...the obligations and choices we make in our relationships...

If anyone reads this book...and follows its outline and advice...they may find their life transformed in a very deep way.  ~Michael Reilly

A New Day Begins...

When a New Day begins,
   Dare to Smile...

  Gratefully!

We may not always feel grateful, much less like smiling.  When problems occupy our minds, we may tend to focus on everything that is wrong or could go wrong.  If we would shift our focus and remind ourselves:
 This too shall pass
 Things will work out
There are good solutions and I will seek and find them
I choose to be above this problem
This won't get the best of me
I recall my past victories and I will overcome once again

This shift of focus in our thinking changes our attitude.  We move from being angry, hopeless, and agitated to being hopeful and having peace.

Let us begin each New Day focusing on what is right not wrong, good not bad, beautiful not ugly, hopeful not hopeless... an attitude of gratitude instead of complaining, self-pity, or comparing ourselves with others.

Let us practice being grateful each New Day and remembering our blessings!  There is always something to be grateful for and that will put a smile on our face!

Breaking Out of Your Comfort Zone

Learn  how to handle rejection, work hard, and function outside of your comfort zone.  Success will be yours. ~ Gonzo Arzuaga

Remember this simple, life-empowering truth: It is not necessary to get rid of fear to succeed.

Fear of rejection cannot keep you from achieving your goals if you will persist.  Fear of failure cannot keep you from succeeding in life if you will learn from your mistakes and try again.

The more comfortable you have to be, the fewer chances and opportunities you will take,  Staying comfortable keeps you from growing and robs you of true happiness.

Functioning outside of your comfort zone may not be easy.  Everything is uncomfortable at first. Eventually, as you move through the discomfort, you will succeed.  Your comfort zone will expand and you will grow to become a "bigger" person.

Is there an area in your life in which you are holding yourself back by staying comfortable?  Decide today to take one step outside of your comfort zone. Before you know it, you will discover a life better than you ever imagined!

Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new. ~Brian Tracy

One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen again and again; fear must be overcome again and again. ~Abraham Maslow

Anything you to do to stretch yourself out of your comfort zone will ultimately enable you to take larger risks and grow. ~ Leslie Evans

Comfort zones are plush lined coffins. When you stay in your plush lined coffins, you die. ~ Stan Dale

Nobody ever died of discomfort, yet living in the name of comfort has killed more ideas, more opportunities, more actions, and more growth than everything else combined. Comfort kills! ~ T. Harv Eker

I Will Do More

I will do more than belong, I will participate.
I will do more than care, I will help.
I will do more than believe, I will practice
I will do more than forgive, I will forget.
I will do more than teach, I will inspire.
I will do more than dream, I will work.
I will do more than give, I will serve.
I will do more than earn, I will enrich.
I will do more than live, I will grow.
I will do more than be fair, I will be kind.
I will do more than be a citizen, I will be a patriot.
I will do more than be friendly, I will be a friend.

~ William Arthur Werd

These beautiful words of wisdom and inspiration encourage us to be do our best and be our best.  Every line gives us something to think about and apply to our lives.

I will do more than belong, I will participate.
We all belong to a family, a team at work, school or play, a group of friends, an organization or club, etc.  We participate when we get involved and share of ourselves - our ideas, time and energy.  We can do more by being active participants in every area of our lives!

I will do more than care, I will help.
It is one thing to say we care, but it is quite another to actually do something about it.

I will do more than believe, I will practice.
Again, we can put our faith into action. We can do more if we are willing!

I will do more than forgive, I will forget.
We may not "forget" in the literal sense of the term, and that is not what I believe is intended here.  Rather, we can "forget" in the sense of "letting go, releasing."

I will do more than teach, I will inspire.
This brings to mind another awesome quote by William Arthur Werd that says it all: "The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires."

I will do more than dream, I will work.
Dreams are just the beginning.  If we want to see them manifested in reality, we must do our part and work which incudes planning, setting goals and believing!

I will do more than give, I will serve.
Giving and serving go together, especially when we give with a cheerful heart.

I will do more than earn, I will enrich.
Earn is defined as: to receive as return for effort and especially for work done or services rendered (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).  We earn money for work done, but when our work enriches others, we also gain much more than money. Our reward is priceless.

I will do more than live, I will grow.
If we keep growing mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and if we keep learning, we will live fully and not merely exist.

I will do more than be fair, I will be kind.
This quote comes to mind: "In life you  can never be too kind or too fair; everyone you meet is carrying a heavy load. When you go through your day expressing kindness and courtesy to all you meet, you leave behind a feeling of warmth and good cheer, and you help alleviate the burdens everyone is struggling with. ~Brian Tracy   Beautifully said!

I will do more than be a citizen, I will be a patriot.
Anyone can become a citizen of a country, but that does not mean that they love and support their country and are willing to support it. That is a patriot!

I will do more than be friendly, I will be a friend.
We can be friendly without liking someone, but we cannot be a good friend to someone we do not like. What does being a friend mean to you?

I hope you enjoyed this beautiful poem by William Arthur Werd as much as I have. May you let it speak to your heart, and may you be blessed!  Krystal

The Good Life for Each New Day

The happiest people....

are rarely the richest, the most beautiful, or even the most talented.

Happy people do not depend on excitement and "fun" supplied by externals.

They enjoy the simple things in life.

They waste no time thinking other pastures are greener; they do not yearn for yesterday or tomorrow.

They savor the moment, glad to be alive, enjoying their work, their families, the good things around them.

They are adaptable; they can bend with the wind, adjust to the changes in their times, employ the contests of life, and feel themselves in harmony with the world.

Their eyes are turned outward, they are aware, compassionate..  They have the capacity to love.

~Jane Canfield
