7 Steps to Forming Good Habits

Bad habits are easy to develop, but hard to break.  Good habits, on the other hand, may take more time to develop, but they have many benefits.  Healthy habits (or power habits) make our lives more enjoyable, successful and fulfilling!  But they don’t just happen.  Forming healthy habits takes some effort and lots of practice.

Following are 7 tips on how to form good habits:

1. Decide on what habit you want to become a part of your lifestyle.

2. Answer: What are the benefits of this new habit?

3. Set goals you want to achieve. Start with small steps.

4.  Focus on consistency rather than performance.

5.  Find someone to hold you accountable (friend, family member, counselor) who can remind you of your goals and help to get you back on track if your veer off.

6.  Reward yourself.

7.  Stay committed. Persist in the face of setbacks. Get help if necessary. And never give up!
